Kate Murphy BVSc (Hons) DSAM DipECVIM-CA MRCVS PGCert (HE)

Kate Murphy graduated from the University of Bristol in 1996, returning to the University of Bristol for a residency in Small Animal Medicine in 1997. She worked in private practice for 2 years and then returned to the University of Bristol in 2002, where she is currently Senior Clinical Fellow in Small Animal Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care and Medicine Team Leader. She gained the RCVS certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 1999, the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Medicine in 2003 and the ECVIM Small Animal Medicine diploma in 2003. Kate is a European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine and has interests in all aspects of medicine but particularly enjoys emergency medical cases. She is co-author of a textbook “notes on canine internal medicine” and a number of other book chapters.

 

Kostas Papasouliotis DVM  PhD  DipRCPath  DipECVCP  MRCVS

Kostas graduated from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1989 and after a period in first opinion small animal practice enrolled and completed a PhD in Feline Gastroenterology at the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, University of Bristol. He spent five more years at Bristol, first as the Waltham Resident in Feline Gastroenterology (two years) and then as a Resident in Clinical Pathology (three years). In 1998 was appointed Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Pathology (University of Bristol). He holds the RCPath and ECVCP diplomas and he is Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Clinical Pathology at the University of Bristol where he is the academic lead of the Diagnostic Laboratories. He is a member of the ECVCP Credentials Committee.

 

Ian Battersby BVSc DSAM DipECVIM-CA MRCVS RCVS and European Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine

Ian Battersby graduated from the University of Bristol in 1998. After a period in mixed practice and then small animal practice he returned to Bristol to undertake a four year residency in Small Animal Medicine. In 2005 Ian was awarded the RCVS and European Diplomas in Small Animal Internal Medicine and in 2007 gained RCVS specialist status. Ian currently works at Davies Veterinary Specialists in Hertfordshire.

 

Anna Meredith MA VetMB CertLAS DZooMed MRCVS RCVS Recognised Specialist in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine

Anna Meredith graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1991. In 1992 she joined the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh where she set up and is Head of the Exotic Animal and Wildlife Service. Anna lectures internationally and has published widely on all aspects of exotic, zoo and wildlife medicine. She is co-editor and an author of the BSAVA’s Manual of Exotic Pets, Manual of Rabbit Medicine and Surgery and the Manual of Rodents and Ferrets, and the Self-Assessment Colour Review of Rabbit Medicine and Surgery. Anna holds the RCVS Diploma in Zoological Medicine and is an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine. She is a recipient of the BSAVA Blaine Award for outstanding contributions.

 

David Gould BSc (Hons), BVM&S, PhD, DVOphthal, DipECVO, MRCVS

An Edinburgh graduate, following a year in general practice David moved to the University of Cambridge to undertake a PhD in molecular genetics. This was followed by a clinical residency in veterinary ophthalmology at Bristol University, after which he remained as Lecturer. He joined Davies Veterinary Specialists in 2003, where he is now director and head of their ophthalmology service. David is a European and RCVS-recognised Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology, and is a regular speaker at national and international CPD meetings. He enjoys clinical teaching and is chairman of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology examination committee.

 

Laura Owen BVSc (Distinction) CertSAS MRCVS

Laura graduated from the University of Bristol in 2001, with distinction. After a three year period in predominantly small animal practice, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Royal Veterinary College, London. Laura then moved back to Bristol and completed a three-year ECVS approved residency in small animal surgery from 2005-2008. Laura was awarded the RCVS certificate in small animal surgery in 2007 and following completion of her residency programme is now board-eligible for the European diploma in surgery. She became employed as a staff surgeon in the soft tissue department of the University of Cambridge in January 2009 and currently enjoys the challenges of both the clinical cases and student teaching. Her main areas of interest are wound management/reconstruction techniques, upper respiratory tract disease and minimally invasive surgery.

 

Ronan Doyle MVB CertSAS DipECVS MRCVS

Ronan graduated from University College Dublin in 1999, after which he completed an internship in small animal surgery at the University Veterinary Hospital, UCD. He then worked in general small animal practice in Berkshire before returning to Dublin to complete a residency programme in small animal surgery. Following a post as lecturer in small animal surgery, he moved from Dublin to Davies Veterinary Specialists, Hertfordshire to become a member of the soft tissue surgery service. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and an RCVS-recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. He is interested in all areas of soft tissue surgery, with particular interests in surgical oncology, management of peritonitis and minimally-invasive surgical techniques.

 

Esther Barrett MA VetMB DVDI DipEVCDI MRCVS European Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging

After graduating from the University of Cambridge, Esther spent 6 years working in mixed practice before taking up a 3 year Imaging residency at the University of Bristol. Having obtained the RCVS and European Diplomas in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2006, she spent a further 2 years working in Bristol, followed by a 6 month locum at the University of Liverpool. She is currently based in South Wales, where she provides a freelance visiting ultrasonography and film reading service to local practices. Although she enjoys all aspects of veterinary imaging, her particular interests include small animal ultrasonography and the use of MRI for the investigation of canine musculo-skeletal disorders.
